For those of you who know me, you know that I am a very forgetful person. I certainly do not mean to forget things, but often I am gently reminded by those who love me what I have forgotten to do. Over the last few years I have noticed that there are many guys just like me, forgetters! That is not to say that women lack the ability to forget, it is just that men seem to be predisposed to chronic forgetfulness.
Although most wives are keenly aware of men's forgetfulness, God has a deep understanding for our problem. In Deuteronomy 8, God tells the Israelites that when a meal is eaten He should be praised. While this may seem like a small, even arbitrary act, there is a great purpose behind it.
God had brought his people out of the desert and into a great land of promise. Therefore, generations of Israelites were growing up in comfortable environments, some being unmoved by the hard life of their forefathers. This spirit of unthankfulness leads to a proud heart. The encouragement God has for us is that we should constantly be thanking God for what he has done in our lives. He has moved in powerful ways. We did not get where we our today by ourselves, rather it has been by the hand of God! Let us not be forgetful towards what God has done for us in the area of finances, health, emotions, and especially our spiritual state. Today is a great day to give thanks and praise to our Creator!
